Have you been watching Boardwalk Empire? It's a recent HBO drama, set in Prohibition era Atlantic City. Martin Scorsese filmed the pilot and it features a cocky young Al Capone, handsome Italian and Irish American gangsters and their beautiful wives and mistresses, all costumed to perfection. Steve Buscemi plays the enigmatic treasurer of Atlantic City and Kelly Macdonald is understated and radiant as an Irish immigrant, struggling to find her way in a corrupt city. And again, the costumes are just so lush, you vintage mavens will love the hats, dresses, hair, makeup...
The men's costumes are impeccable too. Check out this interview with the costume designers from Esquire.

Dear Caroline, this sounds fantastic! I haven't seen it. What channel is it on? xx
ReplyDeleteYes! We've recorded every one so far. How handsome is Jimmy? However, I must close my eyes whenever Mr. Buscemi has a make-out scene. Great new series though!
ReplyDeleteOH ooh! Is this on UK telly yet? It looks great!
ReplyDeleteOh I've missed this, or maybe we aren't getting it in NL yet (often a good few months behind the UK, and even longer than the US). Looks great.
ReplyDeleteThis looks like a great show. Love the costumes!
ReplyDeleteI've never seen it, but I'm loving the costumes already!
ReplyDeleteYes and I'm loving this show!
ReplyDeleteI really like it! I've watched the first 3 episodes and Steve Buscemi is brilliant. You're so right, the costumes and styling are gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteLooks fantastic. With Downton Abbey wrapping up soon, I definitely want some new period series to watch!
ReplyDeleteArianne from A + B in the Sea
Yes, it's great! A replacement for Mad Men I guess.
